Chris Smith is the Program Coordinator in 51²è¹Ý’s English Department. Previously, he has worked across the country in nonprofit communications, events, and operations for organizations as varied as Chicago Art Department, 4th Wall Theatre Company in Houston, Third Coast International Audio Festival, Chicago Public School’s Department of Arts Education, Arts Fort Worth, and the Chicago High School for the Arts. He has also worked with marketing and design agencies Echelon Design Inc. and the Black Sheep Agency and was most recently working as global brand and content lead in the New York office of Theatre Projects, the oldest venue strategy and design consultancy in the world.

Chris has taught courses in theatre with Texas Arts Project and in writing at Oregon State University where he was managing editor of 45th Parallel Literary Magazine. He is the author of the poetry chapbooks Warren (Ghost City Press) and Twenty-Four Covers of a House on Fire (forthcoming, Finishing Line Press), and his Pushcart and Best of the Net nominated work has appeared in Colorado Review, DMQ Review, Psaltery & Lyre, LIT, and others. He received his BA at St. Edward’s University and his MFA at Oregon State University, and he is grateful for past residencies through Spring Creek Project and Chicago Art Department. Outside of 51²è¹Ý, Chris enjoys producing theatre, touching grass, volunteering, and asking strangers for their ghost stories.
