Dr. Victoria Smiegocki joined the Deason Criminal Justice Reform Center in March 2020 to design and conduct criminal justice research. Originally from the northeast, Victoria received her B.S. in Criminology from The College of New Jersey. She earned an M.S. in Justice, Law & Criminology (2018), a Graduate Certificate in Applied Statistics (2018) and a Ph.D. in Justice, Law & Criminology from American University.
Throughout her graduate career, Victoria served as a research assistant for various professors and as a teaching assistant to a PhD-level quantitative research methods course. Victoria also worked in the Defender Services Office’s Program Operations Division as a budget analyst. In that capacity, she managed financial and staffing portfolios for federal defender offices (FDOs), developed yearly budgets for FDOs nationwide, and served as liaison to the Judicial Conference of the United States’ Defender Services Budget Subcommittee.
