Biography

Dr. Xu Nie’s current research is primarily focused on the dynamic behavior and multi-scale impact damage characterization/evolution in heterogeneous cementitious composites, advanced diagnostic techniques for Kolsky bars, and high-rate mechanical property and microstructural characterization for advanced metallic alloys. He has authored / coauthored over 50 journal articles and book chapters in the broad area of Impact Mechanics and Dynamic Behavior of Materials. Up to date, he has received over $4.8 million in research funding as PI and Co-PI from multiple Department of Defense and Department of Energy agencies. Dr. Nie was awarded the Young Engineer of the Year by the ASME North Texas Section in 2016, and has been serving as the technical editor for Journal of Dynamic Behavior of Materials since 2020.
