Appointed to the position of Piccolo with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, James Romeo began his tenure with the DSO in the fall of 2022. He previously served as acting Assistant Principal Flute/Piccolo of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (Canada) for the 2019-20 season.

Romeo has performed as guest Principal Flute with the San Diego Symphony, the San Diego Opera, the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, the Tucson Symphony, and the Modesto Symphony, and has additionally performed with the Fort Worth, Indianapolis and Canton Symphony Orchestras. He has also appeared in many summer festivals including the Mainly Mozart Festival, Kent/Blossom Music Festival, Centre d’Arts Orford (Canada), the Indiana University Summer Music Academy Festival and the Anatolia College Music Festival (Greece). As a soloist, Romeo performed and recorded the world premiere of David Canfield’s Sonata for Flute and Piano and has additionally performed in solo and chamber engagements with the La Jolla Music Society, Art of Elan and Luscious Noise.

As an educator, Romeo previously taught at the Flute Academy of the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University-Bloomington, serving as Assistant Director. He has also taught on the faculty of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra School of Music. With the commencement of the

2023-24 academic year, James joins the faculty of 51²è¹Ý’s Meadows School of the Arts as Adjunct Associate Professor of Flute.
