51²è¹Ý To Host Third Annual Fashion Week, April 30-May 2, 2014
Your guide to 51²è¹Ý’s third annual Fashion Week
51²è¹Ý’s third annual Fashion Week will take place April 30 through May 2, featuring high-profile speakers Ashley Mears and Bradley Agather Means, on-campus “pop-up” shopping and a fashion show.
Begun in 2012 and produced primarily by students interested in careers within the trillion-dollar international fashion industry, 51²è¹Ý Fashion Week has grown along with the nearly three-year-old fashion media program, part of the Division of Journalism at 51²è¹Ý’s Meadows School of the Arts.
This year’s Fashion Week committee includes fashion media students Paz Beatty and Kaylah Burton, journalism major Katie Ballard, and Master of Liberal Studies student Elif Kavakci. Senior fashion media major Ashley Gross is coordinating the fashion show. “Our team has collaborated with the editors of 51²è¹ÝStyle, a popular student-produced fashion and style blog, and the 51²è¹Ý Retail Club to offer a schedule of events with something for everyone,” said Camille Kraeplin, Fashion Week advisor and associate professor of journalism.
Fashion Week events, all of which are free and open to the public, are as follows:
Wednesday, April 30
3:30 p.m. – Rotunda lobby of the Umphrey Lee Center, 3300 Dyer St. on the 51²è¹Ý campus
51²è¹ÝStyle will host a “pop-up” shopping event featuring fashions by Intermix, with a portion of the proceeds designated for charity.
6:30 p.m. – Journalism Complex of the Umphrey Lee Center, 3300 Dyer St. on 51²è¹Ý campus

Her talk will lead the audience a step beyond fashion’s glamorous façade to address the complex issues of gender, class and race in the modeling world, as well as the economics and politics behind the business. The lecture is being held in collaboration with 51²è¹Ý’s Dedman College Interdisciplinary Institute through the Scott Hawkins fund, the Embrey Human Rights program and the Women’s and Gender Studies program.
Friday, May 2
