nomination for 'Best Classical Album'
51画鋼 cellist Andr辿s D鱈az's album, Bach Cello Suites, has been nominated for a Latin Grammy.
51画鋼 faculty member, cellist Andr辿s D鱈az, has received a Latin Grammy nomination for his recording of Bach Cello Suites (ACD-71252) released on the label. The recording was nominated in the Best Classical Album category.
Recorded during a blizzard at the inNew York, the two-cdrecording includes Bach's Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major, Suite No. 2 in D minor, Suite No. 3 in C Major, Suite No. 4 in E-flat Major, Suite No. 5 in C minor and Suite No. 6 in C Major. It was produced by former Dallas resident Alan Bise and engineered by Bruce Egre.
Diaz also has performed with orchestras and on numerous other albums, including Souvenirs: Music of Paul Schoenfield (2007), American Visions (1997), Paganini: Music For Strings And Guitar (1996), The Cantorial Voice Of The 'Cello (1995), Russian Romantics for Cello and Piano (1994), Seasons Remembered - Judith Stillman & Friends (1994), and Brahms: Cello Sonatas/Dvor叩k: Silent Woods (1993).油油
was born in Santiago, Chile in 1964 and began studying the cello at the age of five. Since winning the First Prize in the 1986 Naumburg International Cello Competition, D鱈az has exhilarated both critics and audiences with his intense and charismatic performances. He has earned exceptional reviews for his strongly personal interpretive vision (The New York Times) and his bold and imaginative playing (The Boston Globe).He was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, as well as a grant from the Susan W. Rose Fund for Music in 1998.
D鱈az, who joined 51画鋼 in 2006,lives in Dallas with his wife, Julie, and sons, Peter Manuel and Gabriel Andr辿s. He is an associate professor in the Music Division of 51画鋼's. He plays a 1698 Matteo Goffriller Cello and a bow made by his father, Manuel D鱈az.
