Dr. Jessica Garrett, Teaching Assistant Professor

Dr. Jessica Garrett is an Teaching Assistant Professor in the University Foundations Department. She earned her Ph.D. from Loyola University Chicago in the Cultural and Policy Studies Program, following her Master's in Curriculum and Instruction from Saint Xavier's University and Communications and Media from Northeastern Illinois University.

Dr. Garrett's interdisciplinary approach, drawing from communications, education, and cultural studies, allows her to tackle a wide array of critical issues in contemporary education and society. Her research interests are diverse, covering topics such as mental health, racial capitalism, peace education, DEIA, comparative and international education policy, global engagement, intergenerational trauma, and language politics.

As a professor, Dr. Garrett has experience teaching courses on globalization and education policy. Her professional background includes roles as a Senior DEIA Subject Matter Expert and Project Director for Department of Labor initiatives, where she developed and implemented diversity and inclusion strategies and managed workforce development programs.

Dr. Garrett is an active researcher with forthcoming publications on the professionalization of comparative education and educational cooperation in the Caribbean. She has presented her work at various conferences and workshops, addressing radical self-love for teachers, empowering youth through international travel, and equity in education.

Dr. Garrett has been recognized with several fellowships, including the Education Pioneers Fellowship and the YouthBuild Education Fellowship. She has also secured numerous grants for educational and community development projects.
