About

Kristie Abt, PhD, ACSM-Certified Exercise Physiologist is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Physiology and Sport Management. Dr. Abt completed her PhD in Exercise Physiology at the University of Pittsburgh in 2005. Over the last 19 years she has broad teaching, mentoring, and advising experience in undergraduate and graduate programs in Applied Physiology and Health Management, Kinesiology and Health Sciences, Exercise Physiology, Health and Exercise Science, and Rehabilitation Sciences.

Prior to joining 51²è¹Ý, Dr. Abt has held faculty appointments at the University of Pittsburgh, Transylvania University, and Dallas Baptist University. She also has extensive experience in the health-fitness industry as a group exercise instructor, University Fitness Coordinator and, more recently, the director of a youth physical literacy program and facility. She has served on numerous university and professional committees with her most meaningful as an incumbent board member of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine that culminated as elected President. She is currently a member of the American College of Sports Medicine Pediatric Exercise is Medicine Committee. Dr. Abt currently resides in Frisco, TX with her husband and their two sons. In her spare time, you can find her cheering from the sidelines as her boys play soccer, football and basketball or pursuing her favorite past-time of strength training.
