This role is an on-campus, in-person position.

The Assistant Director provides career and professional development education for 51²è¹Ý students and alumni through counseling appointments, workshops, and presentations. They manage individual appointments through various mediums to advise, counsel, and prepare students in areas of career and professional development. They host career development workshops and presentations for a variety of student populations.  They are expected to possess a working knowledge of student and/or career development theories and be able to collaborate and foster a cooperative work environment with colleagues.

Essential Functions:

  • Counsel and advise students in individual appointments through various mediums (in-person, virtual, phone, or email) on topics to prepare students in areas of career and professional development; Topics may include career and major exploration, job and internship search, resume/cover letter reviews, and interview preparation; Appointments will include both scheduled and drop-in appointments.
  • Effectively coordinate and lead career and professional development workshops, presentations, and informational sessions for the 51²è¹Ý campus community; These may be hosted at various locations on campus and/or virtually; This also includes the creation or management of any print and/or digital resources and event marketing material.
  • Act as liaison to university academic colleges, departments, or student groups, as well as offices through the Division of Student Affairs to expand student access to the career center, and maintain collaborative relationships to create effective programming for students.
  • Assist with supervision, mentorship, training, and development of Hegi undergraduate and graduate student employees and student leaders involved with Hegi office programs; Opportunities to directly supervise staff may be available.
  • Create career development programming as well a mentor and advise international students with their job search, resume building, and experiential learning opportunities. Collaborate with other departments and offices to learn about resource and opportunities for international students.
  • Serve as support or coordinator for Hegi departmental events (i.e. career fair, Hegi Career Leaders meetings, Homecoming events, etc.) which may include on-site career counseling, set up and take down assistance.
  • Additional duties as assigned or as needed to reach the overall department goals, which may include (1) evaluation and assessment, (2) involvement in partner office events and activities, (3) and enhancement of services.
  • Occasional evening/weekend hours may be required.

Education and Experience:

  • A Master's degree is required. A degree in Counseling, Higher Educations Administration or other related degree is preferred. 
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in a student facing setting in higher education is required.

Essential functions as presented in job description include:

  • Utilizing the model provided by the Residential Commons, develop, implement and manage residential life programs that promote student learning, personal growth and student development, and which establishes a positive sense of community and intellectual environments in on-campus housing. Continuously assess the program, revising as necessary to meet the prevailing needs of students and the university.
  • Assist with all departmental processes and work collaboratively with other areas within RLSH to assure proper execution of related administrative procedures by residence life staff. Participate in RLSH long- and short-term planning efforts including development and management of $2.6 million budget.
  • Provide direction during crisis and emergencies, and effectively communicate to stakeholders throughout the process.
  • Directly supervise -four associate directors. Indirectly supervise 13 full-time RCDs, three graduate assistants, and over 100 resident assistants. Assess the job performance of assigned staff. Develop training programs that reinforce the skills and knowledge needed to effectively meet established goals and objectives.
  • Establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with offices and programs that support and/or augment the goals and objectives of RLSH. Work collaboratively with faculty-in-residence. Work closely with facilities services to maintain the residential buildings.
  • Provide customer service and interface with parents and students as needed to resolve disputes and concerns.
  • Support RLSH administrative requirements for student records and facilities operations.
  • Perform related duties as assigned or required to meet RLSH and university goals and objectives. Participate in select university and division committee work and liaison assignments.

Qualifications and Characteristics of the Successful Candidate

A master’s degree and a minimum of seven years full-time residence life or academic engagement experience. Previous live-in experience required. Superior understanding of student development theory and relevant residence life applications. Ability to maintain excellent and collaborative working relationships with related campus programs and with residence life programs. Excellent organizational and planning skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Ability to manage crisis, and to analyze and address conflict. Ability to interpret student needs and develop effective programmatic responses within the context of university and departmental values, goals, objectives, and strategic plans.

This role is an on-campus, in-person position.

The Staff Psychologist is responsible for providing mental health services to currently enrolled students at 51²è¹Ý. Reporting to the Director of Counseling Services, this position provides direct and indirect clinical services, including initial assessments, individual and group therapy, drop in and crisis intervention, outreach education/programming, and consultation to faculty/staff, students, family members, and others. This position also provides supervision of graduate student trainees. The staff psychologist works collaboratively with professional colleagues and departments in the Divisions of Student Affairs and Academic Affairs to provide culturally competent, evidence-based care.

Essential Functions:

  • Clinical Duties - Direct Care: Provides assessment, individual and group counseling, drop-in and crisis intervention, and referrals during business hours. Utilizes goal-oriented approaches to treatment that are culturally competent and evidence-based. Creates a warm/welcoming clinical environment where clients feel supported and respected. Provides both virtual and in-person therapy.
  • Outreach: Provides outreach education to the university community on focused on topics related to mental health and self-care. Collaborates with campus partners to provide programming for support of students outside the clinic, such as participation in orientation or population-specific skills trainings.
  • Committee Involvement: Participates on relevant committees and/or teams that have the mission of promoting health and wellness in regards to mental health, substance abuse, and/or sexual assault and relationship violence. Serves on internal and university-wide committees in keeping with areas of expertise and interest. Participates in departmental meetings and activities.
  • Professional Development: Demonstrates commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in clinical work and all professional activities. Works to remain up to date in the literature on the needs of college and professional students, fellows and trainees; researches and executes evidence-based strategies and interventions targeted toward this population.
  • Clinical Duties - Indirect Care: Consults regarding mental health issues and students of concern with faculty/staff, students, and family/friends. Collaborates/coordinates care with treating psychiatrists. Completes appropriate/timely clinical documentation, case management, coordination of support services and care with other Health and Wellness offices and offices throughout the University.
  • Clinical Supervision (for licensed applicants only): Provides supervision and training for doctoral interns, practicum student trainees, and graduate assistants. Monitors client welfare while providing observation, feedback and support to enhance the supervisee's clinical skills and encourage their professional growth and development. Provides ethical guidance and support to supervisee(s) for challenging situations.
  • Occasional evening/weekend hours may be required for outreach events. 

Education and Experience:

  • A PhD or PsyD in Psychology is required. 
  • A minimum of two years of experience is required. 
  • Experience with crisis intervention and providing clinical services to culturally diverse client population is required. 
  • Experience providing services to college students in a college setting is strongly preferred. 
  • Experience with brief and short-term models of psychotherapy is also preferred.
  • Experience supervising graduate student mental health trainees is preferred.
  • Licensed or license-eligible in the state of Texas is required.

This role is an on-campus, in-person position.

The Triage Counselor will coordinate and provide triage assessment and crisis intervention within Counseling Services. The primary responsibility is to conduct initial assessments with students seeking services to determine if their needs fall within our short-term model and assign them to a counselor, if appropriate, or refer them to case management if needed. The Triage Counselor is responsible for assessing students  in crisis, providing intervention and managing the situation until resolved. This position also provides outreach programming and education to the 51²è¹Ý community.   Works collaboratively with professional colleagues and departments in the Divisions of Student Affairs and Academic Affairs. Creates a warm and welcoming environment where clients feel supported and respected.

Essential Functions:

  • Clinical Duties - Direct Care:Conducts initial assessments for students seeking services, assigns students to a counselor or case manager as apporpriate and provides crisis intervention services and manage crisis cases from students at high risk.
  • Clinical Duties - Indirect Care: Completes appropriate/timely clinical documentation, coordination of support services and care with other Health Center units and with the Office of Student Advocacy & Support. Assists with managing counselor caseload by ensuring equal distribution of clinical cases.
  • Outreach: Provides outreach education to the university community on topics related to crisis intervention and seeking mental health care, and collaborates with campus partners to provide programming to support students who do not seek care at Counseling Services.
  • Other Duties: Attends and participates in regular Counseling Services staff meetings, case conferences and in service trainings. Participates in Student Affairs and other university committees as assigned by the Director and Associate Director of Counseling Services.

Education and Experience:

  • A Master's degree in Mental Health, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work or related field is required. 
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience is required. Experience with crisis intervention; ability to conduct risk assessments and manage potentially high-risk clients is required. Experience providing clinical services to culturally diverse client population is also required. Experience working in a college or university setting or with college aged population is preferred. 
  • An LMSW, LCSW, LPC, or LMFT is required.
