Designations
Spring 2014, 51²è¹Ý received the SAFETY Act Designation which provides incentives for the development and deployment of anti-terrorism technologies by providing liability protections for Sellers (51²è¹Ý) of "qualified anti-terrorism technologies."
51²è¹Ý is said to be the first institution of higher education to receive this designation with its QUATT identified as a set of policies, procedures and personnel which, when used together, provide comprehensive protection for 51²è¹Ý, its students, employees and visitors from terrorist and criminal activities. As part of the Homeland Security Act of 2002, Public Law 107-296, Congress enacted several liability protections for providers of anti-terrorism technologies.
The SAFETY Act provides incentives for the development and deployment of anti-terrorism technologies by creating a system of "risk management" and a system of "litigation management." The purpose of the Act is to ensure that the threat of liability does not deter potential manufacturers or Sellers of anti-terrorism technologies from developing and commercializing technologies that could save lives.
Winter of 2019, 51²è¹Ý received notice that the Designation has been renewed for another five years.
