ECO Abroad
Study Abroad is a great opportunity to learn and explore the world.
- For more information about how to apply, the course search tool, program information, how to create and submit the PPOS, etc., please contact the Abroad office at abroad@smu.edu.
- The Economics advisor will sign off on your PPOS form (course selection instructions below) indicating that it is possible to take the listed abroad courses and graduate on time.
- The Economics Department does not require a meeting. Optional: If you would like a more in-depth understanding of your ECO major progress, complete your calculator and send it to alyssawong@smu.edu. This question can generally be answered via email. Your Dedman Degree Counselor can help you understand your overall progress towards graduation.
Important:
- You will not receive ECO major credit during fall, spring, or January abroad programs. Currently, only the summer LSE program offers ECO major credit.
- If you choose a fall/spring semester program, your best option is to instead take as many CC requirements and/or minor (if applicable) courses as possible. Since these are non-ECO courses, you need to complete the below steps.
Abroad Course Selection Instructions:
If you do not know which CC/minor requirements you are missing specifically, you need to do the following:
- Review your “Degree Progress” in my.51²è¹Ý and/or pull your DPR Summary report.
- If you need help understanding which CC/minor requirements remain...
- Contact the CC Office (theccmail@smu.edu) and/or view their website here. Your Dedman Degree Counselor can also assist.
- Contact your minor advisor (i.e. for a history minor, contact the history department).
- The business minor advisor is Barbara Mohrle bmohrle@mail.cox.smu.edu. She can also help you understand which abroad courses fill minor requirements.
- Once you understand which CC/minor requirements you need, you’ll then search for those missing requirements in the abroad course search. If you do not understand how to filter for CC/minor requirements in the abroad course search tool, you’ll need to , email abroad@smu.edu, or attend walk in-hours (see contact us page). If you have listed as many CC/minor courses as possible on your PPOS form, and you still need to list additional courses, please list electives (any course that interests you).
- Submit your PPOS form electronically via DocuSign. You’ll need to contact the abroad office if you do not know how to do so. It will route automatically to the Economics Advisor for signature after the abroad office signs. You will receive a final copy electronically once all parties have signed.
Finally, do not wait until the last minute to apply. You may jeopardize going abroad if you try to complete the process last minute.
