The last day to withdraw from the University is: April 28. Grades of W will be given and no refund given.
UNDERGRADUATE students:
- Continuing students (students who have completed at least one term at 51²è¹Ý)
If you need to withdraw from the University, you must complete the Undergraduate Leave Request Form. Undergraduate students visit smu.edu/leaverequest. The effective date of the withdrawal is the date the form is processed in the University Registrar’s Office. Discontinuance of class attendance or notification to the instructors of intention to withdraw does not constitute an official withdrawal. If you reside in University housing, you must secure clearance from the Office of Residence Life and Student Housing. Students should complete the form before the term begins to avoid financial obligation for tuition/fees.
- NEW students (Spring 2025 is your first term at 51²è¹Ý):
o Before term begins (prior to 1/21/2025) – Send email to ugadmission@smu.edu to inform them that you will no longer be attending 51²è¹Ý. (No financial obligation.)
o 1/21/2025 through 2/3/2025 – Send email to ugadmission@smu.edu to inform them that you will no longer be attending 51²è¹Ý and submit a Withdrawal Form. (Withdrawal refund schedule applies.) Admissions will send you the Withdrawal Form to complete.
o After 2/3/2025 – Complete the Undergraduate Leave Request Form. Undergraduate students visit smu.edu/leaverequest. The effective date of the withdrawal is the date the form is processed in the University Registrar’s Office. (Grades of W will be given and withdrawal refund schedule applies.)
GRADUATE students: If you need to withdraw from the University, you must contact your academic school of record or dean's office. Students should complete the form before the term begins to avoid financial obligation for tuition/fees.
Medical Withdrawals
Medical withdrawals provide a pro rata refund of tuition and fees, and have conditions that must be met prior to re-enrollment at 51²è¹Ý. Medical withdrawals can only be authorized by a licensed physician or psychologist/ counselor in the 51²è¹Ý Health Center. The University does not grant retroactive medical withdrawals. The last day a student can request a medical withdrawal is the last day to withdraw for the term in which the student is requesting to withdraw. Withdrawing students living in 51²è¹Ý housing must check out of the residence halls with Residence Life and Student Housing per established procedures.
