Mandatory VITA Tests - Due January 31, 2024 to mid-February 2024

Dear Law Students,

Here are a few reminders regarding the 51²è¹Ý VITA program:

  1. If you plan to participate and haven't returned a Public Service Confirmation Agreement, please find one on the Public Service Program website or click on: Confirmation Agreement fill it out and return it to Lynn Moubry in Carr Collins Hall - suite 320, 3rd floor.

  2. VITA Packet - stop by the Public Service Office (Carr Collins, Suite 320, 3rd floor) weekdays between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  This information is also online at: 
    The packet includes the following IRS Publications:         
    6744 (VITA/TCE Volunteer Assistor's Test/Retest); 
    4012 (VITA/TCE Volunteer Resource Guide - tabbed training guide).

  3. Three mandatory IRS / VITA TESTS with a score of 80% or higher (only 1 retake per test allowed):                                     
    Volunteer Standards of Conduct (short, less than 1 hour - 10 questions);                                                                                       
    Intake/Interview and Quality Review  (short, less than 1 hour - 10 questions);                                                                                   
    Advanced (4+ hours minimum - 35 questions) online prior to scheduling your VITA hours.                                                                                                               
    Remember you will receive 8 Public Service hours for  taking the IRS required tests, provided you complete a minimum of 8 hours or more of tax preparation at our VITA sites.

  4. Print and sign the following completed form (no certificates):

    Scheduling sites:

  1. Contact the scheduler at the Dallas Community Tax Centers to submit your VITA site selections; some sites will be virtual. Dallas Community Tax Centers will give you instructions on how to schedule your hours online.  Request VITA dates/times/site locations beginning mid to late January 2024.

  2. The logistics of public service hours and the program are listed on the 51²è¹Ý VITA website for your reference.
