As 51²è¹Ý Libraries and its special collections units collect born-digital materials, there is a need for an effective digital preservation program since there is no original physical item to re-digitize if the born-digital item is lost or corrupted.
51²è¹Ý Libraries has adopted best practices to ensure the integrity, authenticity, and long-term preservation of digital and born-digital materials in our care. The digital preservation advisory group evaluates and reviews the policies and procedures for the program and helps promote the need for robust digital preservation practices across campus.
The digital preservation program adheres to the 51²è¹Ý Libraries Digital Preservation Policy and the 51²è¹Ý Libraries Digital Preservation Framework. Files are stored on the Rosetta software platform. Rosetta comprises a secure digital archive server backed up in two locations by 51²è¹Ý’s Office of Information Technology. Files are also placed on Microsoft Azure as a tertiary backup.
