OIT Technology News: Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2023 Edition
Just in time for Cybersecurity Awareness Month, 51²è¹Ý is changing how we do cybersecurity awareness training. Starting this month, a new option will appear in your Vector Solutions Training notifications—Cybersecurity Wellness Program. The new program focuses on improving cybersecurity by concentrating on changing a user’s behavior towards the nine cybersecurity habits: Literacy, Skepticism, Vigilance, Secrecy, Culture, Diligence, Community, Mirroring, and Deception.
Soon, Microsoft Teams will replace Skype for Business as our primary instant messaging and communications platform. This evolution will require changes to telephony on campus, but it offers many new features and extends Skype for Business's capabilities.
Malicious actors are getting better at working their way around security features every day. To help secure your account from unauthorized access, we will soon require Duo Verified Push when logging into 51²è¹Ý services.
Every day, we are faced with cyber attacks from all over the world. Each time we discover a new scam or vulnerability, we are reminded of how much work is required to keep up. Every year during the month of October, we reflect on the progress that we’ve made as a University towards improving our cybersecurity.
As you may know, 51²è¹Ý360 is a one-stop-shop app facilitating connections between 51²è¹Ý departments, offices, organizations, and the broader 51²è¹Ý community, offering easy access to events, services, and information. The University has recently added seven new apps to the platform, including Canvas LMS, Outlook, Shuttle TransLoc, 51²è¹Ý Aware, Dedman Recreation Center, 51²è¹Ý Athletics, and STABLE.
OIT plans to deploy Jamf, as a replacement for Ivanti, to University-owned macOS devices. Jamf will allow users to install software on their Macs and ensure they are up-to-date and secure. Find out what to expect and how you can help.
