Community Hour at Perkins (CHAP)
The Perkins community gathers on Tuesdays from 11:00 am – 11:50 am in Prothro Hall Room 209 and on zoom to discuss interesting and relevant topics led by faculty members, guest speakers, and student organizations. Surviving War in Gaza: A progressive Scholar Speaks with Dr. Isam Shihada, 51²è¹Ý Visiting Scholar

Dr. Isam Shihada received his doctorate in English Literature Gender Studies in 1999
from Pune University in India. He has written several books, among them Thomas Hardy:
A Feminist Perspective (2001) and The Novel: A Critical Study (2017). He is currently writing his forthcoming book as a scholar and a survivor of his experience of the war in Gaza. Dr. Shihada researches extensively on topics such as gender, class, race, war,
religion, globalization and migrant labor. In 2023, Dr. Shihada survived death numerous times during the war in Gaza. He was rescued by Scholar Rescue Fund and hosted by 51²è¹Ý as a visiting scholar to continue his research and academic career after surviving war and the destruction of his university, Al Aqsa University.
