1. Policy Statement
The University is committed to supporting its students who serve in the military and will maintain this and other policies as necessary to support the unique needs of its student serving in all branches of the military.
2. Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to inform students called to active military duty of their resources and the procedures for pausing academic progress and resolving any questions related to their student accounts.
3. Course Outcomes
- Students enrolled at the University for credit courses who are ordered to active duty have options according to their specific circumstances. All students who are called to active duty need to contact the Dean of Students Office. Students leaving the University under this policy may direct questions about their status or procedures for Reactivation to the University at any time to the Dean of Students Office.
- Generally, there are three possible course outcomes when called to duty:
- The student may be able to complete the courses(s) and/ or receive Incompletes. Student will work with the Registrar’s office to determine when the incomplete will be resolved.
- The student may be able to Drop courses if they are unable to receive an Incomplete.
- The student may be allowed to Withdraw completely from all courses.
4. Applicability
All students called to active military duty are covered under this policy.
5. Questions
Questions about this policy should be directed to the Dean of Students.
Appendix A: Definitions
“Drop” refers to release from one or more classes, with a grade of “W” recorded.
“Withdraw” refers to release from all classes, with grades of “W” recorded.
“Incomplete” refers to an agreement between the instructor and student for the student to complete the course at a later date. A grade of “I” is issued until the remaining coursework is submitted and graded.
“Reactivation” refers to the process by which a student can enroll at the University following a period of 2 or more regular (fall/spring) terms of no enrollment.
