CLEP Testing

Current and prospective 51²è¹Ý students can earn course credit through CLEP testing.

The University Testing Center offers a full range of College Level Examination Program (CLEP) tests for both 51²è¹Ý and non-51²è¹Ý students.

High school students testing for dual credit, academic acceleration or other programs must be age 14 or older and must have a parent or guardian remain on site at all times if under the age of 16.

51²è¹Ý gives credit for CLEP subject examinations based on the specified minimum scores below.

American Government, Financial Accounting and History of the U.S. I and II are only available to incoming students under the 2024-2025 Undergraduate Catalog and are not available to continuing students.

How to register for CLEP testing

Register and pay for your CLEP test on the

Study guides are available for an additional fee. Print your completed registration form and bring it to your testing appointment along with an ID. Remote CLEP administrations are not conducted at the UTC.

All testing is done on campus, in person. Please review UTC’s testing policies and guidelines before test day.

Reserve your testing seat using the UTC Portal. The CLEP test administration fee is waived for current 51²è¹Ý students. Non-51²è¹Ý students will pay a $35.00 administration fee at the time of appointment registration in addition to the testing fee paid to the College Board.

Bring a copy of your College Board CLEP Registration Form and a current photo ID to your testing appointment.

51²è¹Ý students must provide their current 51²è¹Ý ID card as the official form of ID on test day.

Non-students must bring a current government-issued photo ID or a current student photo ID.

Helpful tips

  •  Make sure you register for the correct CLEP test.  Not all CLEP tests are accepted by 51²è¹Ý or other institutions.  If you select the wrong one, you will forfeit your testing fee.
  • Prepare for your test. Visit the   for study guides and free online CLEP courses. 
  • Bring your College Board CLEP registration form to the testing center. Your form contains an exam code that is required to launch your test after you arrive for your appointment.
  • A waiting period is required to retest. You may not repeat an exam of the same title within three months of the original testing date.
  • If you have testing accommodations, notify the testing center well in advance of your appointment. You must provide documentation required by the College Board.
