John Howard
Dr. John Howard is a computer scientist specializing in biometrics research and a fellow at the AT&T Center for Virtualization. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from 51²è¹Ý where his dissertation focused on pattern recognition models for understanding group variations in biometric performance. He was advised by former Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development and Acquisition, Dr. Delores Etter.
Dr. Howard has served as the principal investigator on numerous research and development efforts and his work is regularly cited by media outlets, such as the New York Times and the Washington Post, as well as in congressional testimony. He is currently a principal scientist at SAIC and the lead data scientist at the Maryland Test Facility, a government funded research lab focused on the test and evaluation of artificial intelligence systems. To date, he has more than a dozen peer reviewed publications over the course of ten years in industry and six years in academia. His research interests include biometrics, computer vision, machine learning, testing human machine interfaces, pattern recognition, and technology ethics.
