Minecraft Players Are Helping 51²è¹Ý Researchers Find Better Cancer-Fighting Drugs

Corey Clark, 51²è¹Ý Guildhall Deputy Director of Research and Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at 51²è¹Ý Lyle School of Engineering, participated in an interview on Friday, March 9, 2018, with KERA about the cancer research he and his team are doing using Minecraft, alongside fellow researcher Dr. John Wise, Associate Professor at 51²è¹Ý Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences.

"Video games themselves are all about learning — how to play a level, how to progress through a game — and so what we want to do is use that human intuition piece and take datasets from medical problems, like the chemotherapeutic problem, and then integrate that into the game, so it's part of the natural game itself. Every time somebody does something in the game, it's actually helping in the science. The idea that you’re making a positive impact is something the players really enjoy." – Dr. Corey Clark, 51²è¹Ý Guildhall Deputy Director of Research
