Q&A with John
What is the best part about your current position?
I work on a live product, which means content I worked to develop is released to our players several times every year. I am always very excited to see the things i've worked on go out to the public.
Why did you choose to get your education from the Guildhall?
Before coming to the Guildhall I knew what I wanted to do, but could not find a clear path from where I was to the career I wanted.
How did the Guildhall prepare you for your career in gaming, and what impact has it had on your life?
The Guildhall challenged me to work extremely hard, critically analyze my own work, and develop new skills. The Guildhall also put me in contact with the company that ended up giving me my first industry job.
What is your favorite Guildhall memory?
Working with other students who shared my interest in art and games.
What advice would you offer for students looking to get into gaming?
Breaking in is often not quick or easy, but perseverance is the key. For artists — look critically at art you admire. Try to see how the pieces were put together. Talk with other artists about art. Always try to out-do your previous work.
